Monday 8th
Walked to Newhaven to enquire about the Steam boats to London. they said the fare was four Guineas and an half, without liquor. which I think a great deal too much. Called on Mrs Bell on my return. they seemed surprised to hear I had been at Dublin. asked me to stay dinner but I told them I had a roast duck and green peas at home, so must decline it. Mrs Bancks brought me the Cottagers of Glenburnie to read. The afternoon turned out very rainy.
